INTRODUCING CHAPTR

CHAPTR is a new venture builder with a focus on web3 & synthetic media (AI-generated content) We believe in the promise of web3 (co:creation & co:ownership) and the positive impact of artificial intelligence. We are convinced that both will sustainably change the way great ideas come to life - particularly, but not exclusively, in media. Hence, CHPTR creates new, exciting content, new experiences and new tech solutions for creators, communities & builders in web3. We are committed to the community economy and want to see it thrive. In our view, the best way to do this is by creating sustainable business models that give back to community and investors. Whether you're early or late, it's all about the value that you bring as we create a better future together, beyond the hype.

We actively want to create a diverse team with a variety of different backgrounds because the world is absolutely no fun without a good blend. If you feel like you don't meet all requirements for this job posting, don't be afraid to apply anyway. We know impostor syndrome can sometimes get in the way, but won't let it stop us from hiring the best. In addition, we are parents first and entrepreneurs second. We all have young ones so we actively embrace a #familyfirst culture. We're very focussed, but incredibly flexible, because we get it.

THE ROLE

We are looking for a Lead Data Scientist to provide the strategic technical direction for CHAPTR as well as mentor a junior NLP Data Scientist already in position.

There is an opportunity to shape the role to the individual that comes in. We have an existing Generative AI project which will be launching in 2023. Beyond this, we have many exciting projects in our pipeline for Generative AI applications and experiences that we will be launching. We want to bring in the right person to help build out this roadmap and the appropriate data science team.

The ideal candidate will have a broad range of technical experience and come from a content / media / publishing background (i.e. creative industries). This is an applied data science position requiring the development and deployment of generative models (the application layer) built on top of foundational models (i.e. LLMs). This means that we are ideally looking for someone who has experience in and a passion for machine learning engineering (deployment and maintenance) and ML-Ops.

AI ENGINEERING SKILLS

  • We are looking for someone with deep-level domain expertise in LLMs and AI model architectures with experience in multimodal architectures.
  • Senior experience in a professional data science/AI Engineer position.
  • A strategic leader focussed on growing the technical capabilities of the team.
  • Experience leading a team of data scientists, both to deliver innovative work and as their developmental manager.
  • A deep understanding of fine tuning and training AI models.
  • Strong skills in data science and software engineering. Although your programming language of choice is not important, ideally a fluent Python programmer.
  • An excellent grasp of the basic libraries for data science (e.g. NumPy, Pandas, Scikit-Learn) and familiarity with a deep-learning framework (e.g. TensorFlow, PyTorch, Caffe)
  • A high level of mathematical competence and proficiency in statistics.
  • Breadth of experience across the following data science techniques: supervised/unsupervised machine learning, model cross-validation, Bayesian inference, time-series analysis, NLP, effective SQL database querying, or using/writing simple APIs for models.
  • Experience in professional project delivery and communication (i.e. a project plan, assessing its technical feasibility, and time to delivery)
  • Example engineering skills: Model building (Transformers, GPT3, ViT, ASR, CLIP, Diffusion), compression/optimisation (Pytorch, TensorRT, Deepspeed, ONNX) to Docker / Kubernetes / AWS / GCP.

SKILLS WE NEED YOU TO HAVE

  • Demonstrated track record of developing and deploying NLP and ML techniques in production.
  • NLP (Text classification, Topic modelling, NER, QA, Chatbots, Text generation, Prompt engineering/Fine-tune GPT3).
  • Computer vision and image processing (Object detection/segmentation/tracking, Image/Video classification, Image generation, OCR).
  • Generative AI experience - multimodal techniques to create new content, including audio, code, images, text, simulations, and videos.
  • Specific speciality in large language models, text-to-text, text-to-image, text-to-video.
  • Knowledge of foundation models (i.e. large language models) and wider ecosystem.
  • AI Safety and ethics (research and applied) with a specific focus on Generative AI.
  • Good industry knowledge of sector evolution in the last 12 months (i.e. foundation models from OpenAI, Google, Stability AI, Open Source).
  • Practical experience creating and cleaning data sets, fine tuning foundation models (such as GPT-3.5, Codex, and DALL-E 2), impact on model performance and using tools for inference
  • Technical API experience working with these models.
  • Commercial experience of building applications on top of foundation models and an understanding of the associated safety implications.
