THE ROLE

As a Research Software Engineer at CHAPTR LABS, you'll be our very own tech mage, whipping up stunning, cloud-native, AI-infused proof-of-concepts that would make even Merlin ooh and ahh. This isn't your everyday coding gig, no siree! You'll be spelunking into the technological unknown, constantly adapting, learning, and teaching. 

Today, you'll be the Sherlock Holmes of emerging tech, tomorrow, you're turning complex, ambiguous problems into concrete solutions or building that solution faster than a hyperactive cheetah. Sprinkle in shared ownership of our production environment hosting our dazzling experimental showcases while you navigate through our task tracking tool with the agility of an Olympic gymnast, and you're starting to get the picture! Innovation is the name, and agility is the game. 

Our current Tech-Stack: Google Cloud, Firebase, Python, Typescript, Terraform, Github, Cloud Firestore, EventArc, PubSub, GCIP, Cloud Storage, Cloud Functions v2, React, BigQuery, Github Actions, commercial AI services, Open Source AI Models, Langchain

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

  • Plan and execute ambitious short-lived projects building cloud-native, AI-infused proof-of-concepts to explore the art of the possible with emerging technologies in small teams.

  • Automate everything related to CHAPTR LABS from CI/CD to processes and artifact generation.

  • Maintain the production environment of our CHAPTR LABS’ experimental showcases.

  • Collaboratively design & implement solutions to complex problems based on the latest research combined with engineering best practices.

  • Quickly research & adopt new technologies, solution patterns and teach peers within CHAPTR.

  • Effectively & efficiently plan and track your work in our task tracking tool.

  • Continuously improve the quality of our codebase and our innovation processes.

  • Derive plans for proof-of-concept implementations to be improved for adoption within products.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Friendly, concise, audience-oriented communication in written and spoken form (English).

  • Pragmatic, result-oriented analytical problem solving skills that can overcome ambiguity.

  • Self-organised, purpose-driven individual that likes to collaborate with and enable their team.

  • Experience in innovation- or research-focused roles

  • Experience building LLM applications e.g. using OpenAI, LangChain or similar

  • Ability to work at different levels of software maturity with good understanding of tradeoffs.

  • Ability to understand potential of emerging technologies and derive concrete solutions

  • Comfortable challenging perspectives of other senior collaborators

  • Proactively taking ownership to drive features from technical design to implementation.

  • Experience building lean, resilient, event-driven cloud-native applications - Full-Stack.

  • Experience scoping & planning projects from prerequisites & milestones to individual tasks.

  • Disciplined developer able to work in a trunk-based development environment at high velocity.

  • Ability to quickly adopt new technologies, frameworks & programming languages

  • Ability to refine requirements with non-technical stakeholders based on vague ideas

  • Experience & understanding of current GenAI tools 

WHAT WE’D LOVE TO SEE

  • Experience with our entire AppDev TechStack + Flutter

  • Experience with agentic systems

  • Advanced understanding of ML, LLMs, LMMs and trends in the AI market
