THE ROLE

As our Director of Software Engineering, you'll play an instrumental role in leading and expanding a talented team of senior software engineers. Your input will ensure robust processes and standards are in place while also promoting innovation by building teams for new products and initiatives. Drawing from your vast experience and technical know-how, you'll support product development and provide guidance, fostering the technological advancement of the company. Your pivotal contributions will greatly accelerate the velocity of our operations and guarantee the successful rollout of initiatives. Working collaboratively with our Technical Leadership Team, you'll be a key player in deciding the technological direction of the company. Your leadership will also encompass mentorship, problem-solving, and providing hands-on assistance to unblock your team or boosting the velocity of specific initiatives.

Our current Tech-Stack: Google Cloud, Firebase, Typescript, Python, Terraform, Github, Cloud Firestore, EventArc, PubSub, GCIP, Cloud Storage, Cloud Functions v2, React, React Native, BigQuery, Github Actions, commercial AI services, Open Source AI Models, Flutter, Sentry, LangChain, VertexAI, HuggingFace

 

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

  • Lead, manage and develop our growing team of experienced Software Engineers

  • Iterate processes and standards together with the individuals that have to implement them

  • Build teams for new products & initiatives

  • Support our products and people with your vast knowledge, experience and engineering prowess

  • Get your hands dirty to unblock people and to give specific initiatives a boost in velocity

  • Support new initiatives from a technical standpoint to ensure their success

  • Together with our Technical Leadership Team define the technologic direction of the company

 

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Friendly, concise, audience-oriented communication in written and spoken form (English)

  • Pragmatic, result-oriented analytical problem solving skills that overcome ambiguity

  • Self-organised, purpose-driven individual that likes to collaborate with and enable their team

  • Highly productive Full-Stack Engineer with experience in small and nimble organisations

  • Problem-oriented software & solution architect able to facilitate team decisions on pragmatic solutions for the initiative’s current and future needs without losing sight of the big picture

  • Empathetic leader of integrity who can be trusted by their team to support them in challenging situations and help them grow personally and professionally

  • Passionate teacher that is able to tailor their methodology and communication style to their current audience

  • Proven experience building & enabling teams and challenging the status quo

  • Familiar with most of our tech-stack & proven track record of adapting new technologies quickly

  • Proven experience applying methodologies to optimise for the four core DORA metrics

  • Hands-on experience with current GenAI, LLMs & trends in the AI market

  • Proven experience with advanced software and event-driven system architecture patterns

  • Comfortable travelling irregularly
