THE ROLE

The Senior AI Engineer is responsible for evaluating, optimizing, and integrating AI models into production systems. This role requires deep expertise in AI model internals, performance tuning, prompt engineering, and deployment and evaluation best practices.

This role prioritizes deep AI knowledge but requires strong software engineering skills to ensure an effective utilization of AI capabilities in production systems.

In this role, you will be flexibly assigned to short-term PoC projects, mid-term rapid MVP projects and long-term product development, based on your preferences, skills and company priorities.

Our current Tech-Stack: Google Cloud, Firebase, Python, Typescript, Terraform, Github, Cloud Firestore, EventArc, PubSub, GCIP, Cloud Storage, Cloud Functions v2, React, BigQuery, Github Actions, commercial AI services, Open Source AI Models.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

  • Own high-quality AI-powered features end-to-end from scoping to deployment.

  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional team members, including non-technical stakeholders, to refine requirements and align technical solutions with business objectives.

  • Purposefully explore AI models hands-on to determine suitability for our use cases.

  • Design, implement, and improve AI inference pipelines focusing on quality, latency, and cost.

  • Develop and implement robust, automated AI application evaluation frameworks.

  • Collaborate closely with AI Application Engineers to ensure secure, scalable integration of high-quality AI features into customer-facing products.

  • Analyse AI application performance data and experiments, using insights for data-driven iteration.

  • Stay up-to-date with AI advancements and share AI knowledge to upskill the team.

  • Effectively & efficiently plan and track work in our task tracking tool.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Strong theoretical understanding and practical experience with current AI model internals.

  • Proven experience with AI model deployment & utilization strategies, evaluation methodologies, and monitoring frameworks in production environments.

  • Solid understanding and practical application of MLOps best practices for AI applications.

  • Familiarity and hands-on experience with major AI service providers and their offerings.

  • Working knowledge of fine-tuning methods and their appropriate application.

  • Strong software engineering skills with the ability to bridge AI research/concepts and robust, production-ready engineering implementations.

  • Experience breaking down complex AI objectives into requirements & actionable tasks.

  • Experience leveraging and refining agile processes within an AI/ML team context.

  • Proven experience in quickly adopting new technologies & frameworks.

  • Able to implement Clean Architecture & Onion Architecture principles.
