INTRODUCING CHAPTR

Ask a room of people to define the future of work, and you’ll likely get a dozen different answers. For some, it’s about focusing on more creative goals and automating daily tasks. To others, it creates a fear of being replaced in the near future. To us, the future of work means working alongside AI. Being in control of the best technology instead of being controlled by it.

CHAPTR is a part of the Holtzbrinck Publishing Group alongside businesses like Springer Nature, Digital Science and Macmillan Publishers. A dynamic startup fueled by our passion for technology and redefining the future of work. We build cutting-edge products and relentlessly push the boundaries of what is possible.

We're actively building a diverse team, because diversity fuels fun and innovation. If you feel you may not meet all job requirements, apply anyway; we understand impostor syndrome but won't let it hinder hiring the best. We're a remote, #familyfirst company, offering flexibility while staying committed to our mission. If you're excited about innovation, eager to propel our projects, and passionate about AI, join CHAPTR on this thrilling journey.

THE ROLE

CHAPTR is actively scouting and partnering with startups building at the intersection of AI, media, education, science, and publishing. Where we see strategic fit, we partner with and back the right founders - co-developing solutions with our internal development teams, structuring commercial partnerships, and running pilots that unlock real value for CHAPTR and across Holtzbrinck's portfolio companies.

You'll join a small, focused team navigating an international setup across teams, geographies, and partner companies. This is a hands-on role - not a passive investment seat. You'll be identifying the most promising startups in this space, evaluating their potential, and helping turn the best opportunities into working partnerships. That means scouting founders, mapping markets, preparing materials for internal stakeholders, and supporting pilot execution. It requires curiosity, initiative, and the drive to make things happen rather than wait for them to come to you.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

  • Conduct market research on technology trends and the media market to identify opportunities for growth and innovation across Holtzbrinck's portfolio companies.
  • Scout and run due diligence on startups building AI-driven solutions based on CHAPTR's product portfolio needs and strategic priorities across the group.
  • Build and nurture relationships with founders, VCs, accelerators, and other ecosystem players to develop deal flow.
  • Evaluate startups against strategic fit criteria, collaborating with CHAPTR's technical teams to assess feasibility and business impact.
  • Prepare presentations, reports, and recommendations for senior leadership and investment committees.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Strong analytical thinking with the ability to research complex markets, synthesize information, and turn it into clear, actionable insights.
  • Proactive and self-driven - you thrive in ambiguity, take initiative, and bring structure to complex topics and projects.
  • Deep awareness of the startup and venture ecosystem, with connections to founders, investors networks, and innovation players.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to produce polished materials and present complex ideas clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Profound understanding of AI trends and emerging technologies, with a genuine interest in their application across media, publishing, and science.
  • Ability to handle multiple strategic projects simultaneously with attention to detail and timelines.
  • Flexibility to work in a rapidly changing environment and keep up with the latest technological innovations.
  • Fluent in English, written and spoken. Another EU language is a plus.

WHAT MIGHT COME IN HANDY

  • Excellent degree in Business Administration, Business Innovation, Economics, Data Science, Computer Science, or Engineering (Master’s is a plus)
  • 1–2 years of experience in venture capital, corporate innovation, strategy consulting, or startup environments, preferably focusing on AI or technology. That said, if you're fresh out of university but deeply embedded in this space and eager to build - we want to hear from you.
  • Strong background in conducting market research and competitive analysis, particularly in emerging technologies.
  • Exposure to AI-driven initiatives, technology innovation, or digital transformation projects.
  • Hands-on experience working with AI tools beyond simple prompting - comfortable building workflows, automations, and lightweight tools as part of how you work.
  • Experience in working with interdisciplinary and international teams in the media industry.
  • Comfortable working with a high degree of autonomy.
